Josef Schroeck

Josef Schroeck graduated from University of Innsbruck in 2010. He received a Master in
Architecture with Distinction. His Diploma Project 'The Darwinian Monastery' was made under
the supervision of Prof. Colin Fournier, UCL the Bartlett. He was awardedd the 'Tische
Scholarship' by the Austrian Ministry for Culture and Education 2011 and shortlisted for the
Austrian Architectural 'outstaning Artist Award 2012'. His work was exhibited at numerous
locations like AFO Upper Austria and HDA Graz.
Josef is highly interested in using science and fiction to explore speculative ideas in utopian
future cities. His work deals with the questions of reuse and recycling of abandoned
infrastructure, examing the advantages of unexpected combinations through modifying context
and utilization. Most recently his research explores the possibilites of reintroducing
natural-manmade-landscapes into the city- fabric as part of a sustainable urban ecosystem.
